Hello Beer Friends Nation!

In the spirit of competition, Beer Friends would like to invite everyone to our NFL season hashtag battles! Using hashtagbattle.com we will pit two breweries against each other when their NFL counterparts are facing off on the gridiron. Are you ready for some football? And drinking? And #hashtag battle?!?!?!

What’s a hashtag battle? When you’re drinking a beer of a brewery competing in the battle (#sixpoint vs #yardsbrew), throw a #hashtag of the brewery and tweet it (or setup your foursquare or untappd to push to tweet and include the #hashtag) and we’ll use hashtagbattle.com to declare a winner after the Monday Night football game on ESPN. And because football needs beer, we’re starting on Saturday morning to include the brews consumed during College Football Saturdays. Support your team, support your beer, drink local and hashtag battle!

Hashtag Battle Week Four – New England vs Oakland (#samadams vs #sierranevada)

This is a big one.  The two giants of the Craft beer industry duking it out head to head.

The Pats are loaded, much like the hops in a Sam Adams.   The Pats seem like they could go the distance, unless they played Buffalo sixteen times and then they would only win the first half battles (with a score of 336-0) and end up falling in each one.  Although the Beer Friends have to take the blame a little bit here… Ocho Cinco MUST have been participating in our hashtag battles on gameday – otherwise how could he have dropped that perfectly placed TD pass from Golden Boy Brady?  Sam Adams is credited as lifting the craft beer scene onto the main stage.  The constant commercials comparing piles of hops (like that means anything to anyone) puts Sam Adams in everyones mind – if only the geniuses could get the Golden Boy to drink one – the ultimate commerical…

The Raiders are constantly on a up and down path.  One season they are up – then Al Davis gets involved and the next season they are down.  Last year they were 6-0 in the AFC West, but ended up 2-8 against the rest of the NFL – however the team was playing good football with little to no talent.  In steps Al Davis, fires the head coach and calls Jason Campbell the next Jim Plunkett (yes, that former Redskins QB that never had a QB rating over 90 in Washington and 93 last year in a AFC West that had Denver, the worst defense in the NFL) and “here we go again.”  So far Darren McFadden is running all over defenses and Oakland is looking good – seems like Al Davis should step in any minute…  Sierra Nevada is always a stellar beer and always comes to play.  The strong flavors and great basic styles (see Pale Ale, Porter, Stout) are always good year to year.  This is a tough match to link a up and down football team to a stellar beer – but Oakland was the closest to this brewery so we default…
